As an e-commerce merchant, I want to display real-time, dynamically calculated shipping rates from my connected carriers directly during the checkout process. Currently, merchants must rely on static or flat-rate shipping rules, which can lead to undercharging or overcharging customers, especially for heavier or international packages. We request that the Delivery Gateway app automatically fetches live rates via carrier APIs based on the cart's total weight, dimensions, and the selected destination or pickup point.

Use Shopify Functions for Checkout Validation Shopify Functions allow us to write custom logic that runs on Shopify's servers during checkout. We can use these to enforce business rules, such as validating address fields and blocking checkout if the address is invalid. Let's create a validation function that checks the address fields (e.g., street, city, postal code) and returns an error if the data does not meet our criteria. Create a portable shopper profile similar to "Stripe Link." Once a customer saves their delivery details in any webshop using Delivery Gateway, they are instantly recognized in all other partner shops. We are upgrading this from a cookie-based system to a fully cross-device solution, allowing users to carry their saved addresses and preferences everywhere.

Automatically pre-select the exact delivery method, pickup point, and address used in the customer's last order. This allows returning users to accept their preferred setup with a single click, without having to search the map or type details again.

Add a simple filter to the map interface that allows customers to view only "Parcel Lockers" (automated, often 24/7) or "Pickup Shops" (human-operated). This helps users quickly find the exact type of service they prefer without clutter.

Set different shipping fees based on the specific type of pickup location. For example, you can charge a lower fee for automated Parcel Lockers compared to human-operated Pickup Shops to reflect your costs or influence customer choices.

Automatically hide shipping methods that cannot handle the items in the cart to ensure only valid delivery options are displayed. This feature combines automated logic with manual merchant controls: Automated Filtering: The system automatically checks physical dimensions (e.g., hiding lockers for oversized items), weight limits, and predefined special content types (frozen, chilled, fragile). Custom Rules & Overrides: Allow merchants to manually disable specific shipping methods or destination types (e.g., Pickup Points, Parcel Lockers) for certain products using custom tags or metafields. Use Case: If a product requires special handling that isn't covered by standard dimensions/weight, the merchant can simply add a "no_locker" tag or toggle a metafield, and the system will automatically hide Pickup Point options at checkout for carts containing that item.

Allow customers to specify their exact 3-meter square location using what3words. Perfect for new buildings or rural areas where standard addresses fail.

Highlight sustainable and low-carbon delivery options in the checkout to appeal to environmentally conscious shoppers.

Recognize returning customers and automatically fill in their previously used delivery address or preferred pickup point to speed up checkout.
